Director at Whiteshield Partners with 30 years of experience, Erik Berglof is a widely published and internationally respected specialist in the field of transition economics, as well as financial contracting, corporate governance, financial development and EU reform.

Currently, Erik Berglof is also an Inaugural Director of the Institute of Global Affairs (IGA) in research, public engagement and teaching mission. Previously he was the Chief Economist and Special Adviser to the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and advisor to national governments and international institutions including the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank and OECD. He is also served as Special Adviser to the Prime Minister of Sweden.

Prior to joining the EBRD in 2006, Erik Berglof held the position of Director of the Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics (SITE) and Professor at the Stockholm School of Economics. He was previously Assistant Professor at the Université Libre de Bruxelles and has held visiting positions at Harvard, Stanford and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He founded and was the first President of the Centre for Economic and Financial Research (CEFIR) in Moscow and Programme Director at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in London.

Erik Berglof  has held the positions of Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C., Board Member and Research Fellow of the European Corporate Governance Institute, Governing Board Member of the New Economic School in Moscow, Board Member of the Institute for New Economic Thinking in New York, and Trustee of the Bianca Jagger Human Rights Foundation and Women for Women International.
